SPRAY TAN FAQ

Good to know before your glow. Find quick answers below, then read the full Prep Instructions before your appointment.

How does a spray tan work?

DHA, the color-developing ingredient, reacts with the outermost layer of your skin to create a temporary tan. I customize your solution for your skin and desired shade. Any instant bronzer rinses away during your first rinse; your tan continues developing afterward.

How long will my tan last?

Usually 7–10 days, depending on your skin, prep and aftercare. Moisturize daily and keep showers gentle. Frequent showers, swimming and exfoliation can make your tan fade faster.

How should I prep?

Shave and exfoliate 12–24 hours before your appointment; wax 24–48 hours before. Use an exfoliating mitt or dry brush only—no salt or sugar scrubs. Arrive with clean skin, free of lotion, oil, perfume, makeup and deodorant.

What can I wear during my tan?

Wear an old, dark swimsuit or undergarments. Disposable bras and underwear are available. Female clients over 18 may tan topless or nude. Male clients must wear bottoms; fitted boxer briefs work well. Clients under 18 need parental approval and must wear full swimwear or a bra and underwear.

What should I wear afterward?

Bring loose, dark pants, a loose sleeved top and slides. Avoid tight waistbands, denim, sports bras and clothing that rubs your skin. Bronzer may transfer to fabric, and washing it out is not guaranteed.

Will I have tan lines?

Any area covered during your appointment will remain untanned. Choose your tanning outfit with your event outfit in mind.

How long is an appointment?

Most full-body appointments reserve about 45 minutes for consultation, prep, application and finishing. Check your selected service for its appointment length.

When can I rinse or shower?

Follow the rinse time I give you at your appointment. Rapid tans typically rinse in 1–4 hours; Classic tans in 8–10 hours. Your first rinse is lukewarm water only—no soap or scrubbing. Wait until 24 hours after your tan appointment for your first soap shower. Color continues developing during those 24 hours.

How do I care for my tan?

Before your first rinse, stay dry and avoid sweating, friction and skin-to-skin contact. Afterward, use gentle tan-safe soap, pat dry and moisturize daily. Avoid exfoliating products and scrubbing. Swimming and hot tubs can shorten your tan’s life.

Does a spray tan protect me from the sun?

No. A spray tan provides no UV protection. Wear broad-spectrum sunscreen outdoors. You do not need to sunbathe or use a tanning bed before or after your appointment.

Can I tan with a sunburn or peeling skin?

Wait until your skin is fully healed and no longer peeling. A spray tan cannot cover damaged skin evenly, and peeling can cause patchy results.

What should I know about spray-tan safety?

DHA is permitted by the FDA for external skin application; this does not mean all-over spray exposure is FDA-approved. Avoid inhalation, ingestion and contact with eyes, lips and mucous membranes. Ask about protective measures. Tell me about allergies or sensitivities before booking; a patch test can be arranged.

Can I get a spray tan while pregnant?

Check with your obstetrician before booking. Discuss the formula and spray exposure with them, then let me know about any instructions or concerns.

Why choose a custom airbrush tan?

I tailor your solution, shade and application to your skin and goals, with extra attention to areas such as hands, feet, elbows and knees. You also receive personal prep, rinse and aftercare guidance.
